Anthony Allen at the Levels School

Former England rugby international Anthony Allen used his own experience of overcoming dyslexia at school to inspire youngsters in Ashcott this week.

Anthony, who played more than 200 Premiership rugby games for Gloucester Rugby and Leicester Tigers, paid a visit to the Level School on Tuesday (April 27) in his role as the Ashcott school's sports patron.

A motorbike racer from Street has finished second in his class championship following two third places and a fourth place finish in the final round of the year.

Damon Smith was racing his DS Racing Kawasaki at Castle Combe in Wiltshire, and after his strong performances he took second overall in the 1300cc Streetstock Championships, part of the North Gloucester Road Racing Championships.

Mel Wilder competing

Millfield School in Street has appointed international event rider Mel Wilder as equestrian sports programme manager, beginning this month.

Mel will work with Millfield's newly-titled chief coach Danny Anholt, who has been the director of equestrian sports at Millfield since 2000, to help evolve and develop a new approach for equestrian and education at Millfield School.
