Somerset taxpayers may have paid £1.5 million too much for bin lorries because of an European cartel, the county's waste partnership claims.

The Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) is to take part in a group legal action against a number of companies which manufactured waste trucks between the late-1990s and the early-2010s.

Baltonsborough charity PROMISEworks has been chosen, along with fellow local group Connect Elim, to receive a donation of more than £1,500 from NFU Mutual agents and their staff at the Wells agency, from a national £1 million Agency Giving Fund launched by NFU Mutual's head office.

In light of the national emergency this country is facing, NFU Mutual, the UK's leading rural insurer, allocated £1 millionto help local frontline charities at this difficult time.

Children using school buses will have to follow strict guidelines in the weeks ahead as lessons resume under the 'new normal'.

Somerset County Council has published guidance as to how primary, secondary and college pupils should behave when using school buses or coaches on their daily journeys.
