Street and Butleigh students among top achievers on A-level and BTEC results day at Millfield School

Leavers from Millfield School in Street are celebrating their A-level and BTEC results today (August 10) after another year of ambiguity surrounding exams due to coronavirus.

Students have displayed exceptional resilience and determination, including ones from Street and Butleigh.

Congratulations to the following remarkable individual achievements:

Connor Collins from Street achieved three A*s in government and politics, history and music. Connor is a day student and joined Millfield Prep in Year 7. He is a keen rugby player and received an offer to study Human, Social and Political Sciences (HSPS) at the prestigious University of Cambridge. Connor is an advanced electric guitarist and played a pivotal role in the growth of contemporary music at Millfield.

William Catto from Butleigh achieved three A*s in art, English and psychology and an A* in their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). William joined Millfield Prep in Year 7 and is a keen artist and volunteer.

Maria Elliott achieved four A*s in Art, economics, maths and Spanish. Day student Maria, from Langport in Somerset, joined Millfield Prep School in Year 3 and has been a top academic and keen dancer throughout her schooling.

Ellie Lace has been awarded D*D*D* (triple distinction star) in BTEC art and design and an A* in A level government and politics. A Former Head of School, Ellie joined Millfield in Year 9. She is a strong advocate for student voice, educating her peers on topical issues such as the Black Lives Matter movement and the Sarah Everard tragedy. Ellie is a golfer and artist.

Yuhka Machino has achieved four A*s in chemistry, mathematics, further mathematics and physics. Yuhka, from Japan, joined Millfield Prep School in Year 6, and is an exceptional mathematician recently recognised as the world's top female school-age mathematician for the second year in a row at this year's International Maths Olympiad. She is a diploma level pianist, performer of chamber music and member of Millfield's chamber choir Camerata. She is also a keen badminton player and swimmer.

Honey Priestnall has attained D*D*D* in BTEC art and design and an A* in A level music. Honey, from Pilton, joined Millfield in Year 10 and was a regular performer in all music concerts as a grade 8 singer, performing classical and contemporary vocals.

William Smith, a boarder from Warwickshire, has achieved D*D*D* in BTEC art and design and an A* in A level photography. The former Prep student launched a successful clothing line during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Alexander Biddlecombe achieved three A*s in mathematics, further mathematics, physics and an A in geography. Alexander is a day student from Glastonbury and took advantage of maths and physics extra-curricular enrichment whilst representing the house in everything from chamber choir to chess.

Annabella Dawkins achieved three A*s in drama, English literature and music and an A in history. Annabella, from Berkshire, has boarded since Year 9 and has grade 8 violin and a diploma in singing. She won Millfield Musician of the Year for both instrumentalist and vocalist categories, led the orchestra and string orchestra, was an active member of the chamber music programme with success in Pro-Corda, led soprano in Camerata and gained a place this year on the BYMT (British Youth Music Theatre). She is also an avid hockey and tennis player.

Harriet Dimdore-Miles from Martock achieved three A*s in economics, psychology and photography and an A in mathematics. Harriet was a day student and joined Millfield Pre-Prep in reception. She was a keen sportswoman, enjoying hockey.

Yuntian Xiao achieved three A*s in mathematics, further mathematics and physics and an A in chemistry. Yuntian is from China and has boarded at Millfield since Year 10. He is a keen karate student and incredibly disciplined in both his academic and sporting endeavours.

Dalya Inan achieved three A*s in art, Turkish and photography and a C in Spanish. Dalya, from Turkey, boarded at Millfield from Year 9. She received offers from the world's top art universities and will accept her offer to study at Parsons School of Design in New York.

Tomotaka Mogami has been awarded two A*s in mathematics and physics, one A in further maths and a B in chemistry. Japanese Tomotaka joined Millfield Prep in Year 6 and enjoys esports and taking part in the senior maths challenges.

Sara Rizvi achieved a D*DD in BTEC art and design and a B in A level business studies. Sara, who lives in India, boarded at Millfield for Sixth Form. Sara is a gifted artist, is passionate about fashion and is a great squash player. She leaves Millfield to study at the University of Arts in London.

Thomas Baker attained a D* in BTEC music, D in BTEC food and nutrition, an A in A level geography and an A* in business studies. Thomas joined Millfield as a boarder for Sixth Form and was a keen rugby player.

Aurora Burrowes achieved three As in economics, mathematics and psychology and a B in history. Aurora, from Cornwall, has boarded at Millfield since Year 9. Alongside her academic work, Aurora is an avid reader and volunteer, taking on the role of Head of House. She is going on to read Economics and Politics at Bristol University.

Saina Sodhi achieved a distinction in Chinese (Pre-U), A in A level chemistry and two Bs in mathematics and physics. Saina from New Delhi, India, joined Millfield as a boarder in Year 10, taking part in hockey, girls football and was a member of Millfield's chamber choir, Camerata. Saina developed a social media platform based on TikTok called 'Theek Thaak' that saw her named as India Achievers' Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Nicholas Blagg achieved three A*s in economics, geography and mathematics. Nicholas, from Buckinghamshire, has boarded at Millfield since Year 9. He was a head of Shapwick house and was very supportive of his peers. Nicholas also captained squash alongside being an avid cricket and tennis player.

Flora Brett achieved three A*s in biology, chemistry and mathematics. Flora lives in Canterbury and boarded at Millfield for Sixth Form. She was a first team hockey player, prefect and dedicated to both her academic studies and sport equally.

Kittie Chapple achieved three A*s in biology, Italian and music. Kittie has boarded at Millfield since Year 9. Alongside her studies she performed regularly in concerts, as part of Millfield's chamber choir, Camerata, is a grade 8 level trumpeter, played in orchestra and jazz band and is an international hockey player.

Lily De Lacy achieved three A*s in government and politics, history and Italian. Lily, from Chichester, boarded since Year 9 and received an offer to study History at Cambridge University. She enjoyed riding at Millfield alongside her studies.

Madelaine Fullard achieved a D*D* in BTEC business and an A* in A level product design. Madelaine, boarded at Millfield for Sixth Form.

Alibek Jaisanbayev achieved three A*s in mathematics, further mathematics and physics. Alibek, from London, boarded at Millfield from Year 10. He was an exceptional scientist, achieving gold in the 2020 British Physics Olympiad, scoring within the top 1% of students nationally.

Rebecca Khanan achieved three A*s in business studies, geography and mathematics. Rebecca, from Russia, boarded at Millfield Prep from Year 7.

Erin Kielty achieved two A*s in drama and English literature and a Distinction in Chinese (Pre-U). Erin lives in Ireland and boarded at Millfield for Sixth Form.

Alexander Knox-Jones achieved three A*s in chemistry, mathematics and physics. Alex received an offer to study at the presitigous, Ivyleague Dartmouth University in New Hampshire, to continue his studies and his international tennis career.

Alice McDowell achieved three A*s in English, government and politics and history. Alice, who lives in Essex, boarded at Millfield for Sixth Form and is a keen thespian, taking the lead in various productions, notably as the Ghost of Marley in A Christmas Carol.

Gabriel Nelson achieved three A*s in English, media studies and psychology. Gabriel lives in Hong Kong and attended Millfield for Sixth Form.

Woon Ngee Ng achieved three A*s in chemistry, mathematics and music. Woon lives in Singapore and boarded at Millfield for Sixth Form. She received scholarship offers from the UK's top music universities and has received distinction in diploma in both piano and double bass.

Emily Paterson achieved three A*s in Biology, Chemistry and French. Former Captain of School Emily, from Radstock, Somerset, attended Millfield since Year 9. She received offers from both Oxford and Southampton Universities on their highly-competitive medicine courses. Emily achieved distinction in diploma in cello, is a grade 8 singer and pianist, principal cellist in the orchestra and string orchestra, a key member of sopranos in Camerata and performed in many chamber ensembles.

Lilyann Richardson achieved three A*s in Economics, Mathematics and Psychology and an A* in their EPQ. Lilyann, from London, was on a RJOM scholarship, which provides opportunities for children and grandchildren of Old Millfieldians to study at Millfield. Lilyann said: "It has been the most amazing experience for me. It is such a unique place and I have loved my time here." Lilyann hopes to pursue a career in policy writing to help reduce inequalities, in particular wealth inequality. She boarded at Millfield for her Sixth Form studies, was Head of House for the Spring term and was instrumental in keeping her house community together throughout lockdown.

Claudia Robinson, a boarder from Berkshire joined Millfield in Year 9 and achieved D*D* in BTEC sport and D* in BTEC ICT. Claudia played hockey, netball, cricket and squash all at a high level and overcome her dyslexia to achieve an exceptional set of results.

Sofia Rovda achieved D*D*D* in BTEC art and design. A boarder from Spain, Sofia joined in Year 10 and was involved in riding, swimming and athletics. She was elected as Head of House, leading to victory in both house cricket and athletics.

Harriet Tuson achieved three A*s in English, geography and philosophy. Harriet, from Sherborne, joined Millfield for Sixth Form and was a keen athlete, recently competing at the English Schools Championships in the Senior Girls 400m event.

Zefei Wu achieved three A*s in biology, chemistry and mathematics. Zefei from China boarded for Sixth Form. He is an exceptional academic, scoring within the top 97-99th nationally representative percentile of candidates globally in his SAT exam (American University entrance exam).

Congratulations also to the following students who gained two A*s and an A grade:

Ruohan Chen, Caitlin Clancy, Tegan David, Lily Della Valle, Inigo Edens, Joel Good, Suhail Hooker, Zoe Koerber, Zoe Lindley-Smith, Lucy-Jane Matthews, Ella Porter, Reshma Rao, Charlotte Roberts and Matthew Thornley.

Millfield headmaster, Gavin Horgan, said: "I am delighted to see our Upper Sixth cohort celebrating their A-level and BTEC results today despite all the uncertainties of this last year.

"The students' hard work, resilience and brilliance has led them to achieving incredible things and everyone at Millfield wishes them the utmost luck, support and happiness in their future endeavours."

Students will benefit from the support of our senior leadership team, sixth form tutors and careers department over the coming days to finalise their plans for September.
