Plans to knock down garages in Street and build two houses on the site are resubmitted
Plans to knock down six garages in Street and then build two semi-detached houses on the site, have been resubmitted.
A planning application for the building of two dwelling houses (two-bed and three-bed semi-detached) following the demolition of garages on land between Houndwood Drove and Woods Road, Street, has been submitted to Mendip District Council by Shaha Alom.
This site has been in disuse for a number of years as the six garages are located a relatively long distance away from the residents of the housing block north west to the site, linked by a narrow unexposed alleyway covered by close board fences and without any visibility to neighbouring houses.
Aster housing association has sold the site to the applicant, who also acquired neighbouring land to enlarge the site.
Planning approval was granted for one house on the site in February 2020, and then earlier this year another application was submitted for two homes, though this was later withdrawn over concerns that it would not be approved relating to issues with phosphates and the Somerset Levels and Moors Ramsar site.
The application has now been submitted again, and the plans say: "The works will not have a detrimental impact on the space or the neighbouring context.
"The proposed works will uplift the aesthetics and the secluded empty character of the area without adversely affecting the amenity of existing residents in the area."
One other planning application in the Street area has been submitted this week:
Prior approval for a proposed change of use of agricultural building to a dwellinghouse (Class C3) and for associated operational development at Tilham Farm, Tilham Lane, Baltonsborough, is sought by R Peto.
Planning applications in the Street area that have been decided this week include:

Demolition of existing conservatory and erection of new single-storey rear extension at 4 Portway, Street, by Mr and Miss Foster and Roberts has been approved.
