Plans to convert a barn in Shapwick into a trio of three-bedroom homes, have been given the green light.

A planning application for the prior approval of the proposed change of use of an agricultural building to three dwellings and associated operational development at Barn A, Blacksmiths Lane, Shapwick, had been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council by Mrs P R Barnett.

The proposal sought to convert the barn at the junction of Blacksmiths Lane and Mill Lane to form three dwellings, each with accommodation compromising of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a sitting room and a kitchen/dining room, with associated parking.

The existing roof structure and covering of corrugated fibre cement sheeting will remain, as will the upper section of walls consisting of corrugated metal sheeting and vertical timber boarding. The lower section of walls which are cement rendered blockwork will also remain.

Shapwick Parish Council objected to the plans, with concerns over the design of the homes, increased traffic, car parking provision and the number of homes proposed, but Sedgemoor disagreed and have approved the proposals.
