Street's Merriman Park Fun Day : another cancellation due to coronavirus
This year's Merriman Park Fun Day due to take place on Saturday 5th September has been postponed for a year.
The decision has been made jointly by the Merriman Park Community Group and Street Parish Council after consultation with various bodies due to the current coronavirus pandemic.
The Fun Day was to be the sixth having first taken place in 2015 and has become one of the principal events in Street attracting many residents to the park for the day. During the afternoon there have been dozens of stalls in the park, many brought by local groups, organisations and clubs raising funds and raising their profile, and a series of demonstrations and performances both on the stage and in the park to entertain the crowds. The evening has featured a live band and other entertainment on the stage.
A spokesman for the Merriman Park Community Group said "It has been both a difficult and disappointing decision to make but in these unprecedented times we feel a decision needed to be made as our event takes much planning and we do not know what legislation we would have to follow in three months time.
It does mean that all our supporters and suppliers know where they stand and we can let everyone know in good time. Sadly numerous local groups including ourselves will lose the opportunity to raise much needed funds but the health and safety of the community is the number one priority for us all.
We will be back for Fun Day 2021 on Saturday 4th September with an even better Fun Day for the residents of Street with maybe a new twist or two."
