The first in a series of summer holiday family fun mornings in Street has been hailed a huge success.

More than 30 families attended the event hosted by the village's library gardens on Wednesday (July 22).

And now the organisers are keen to encourage more parents and their children to attend the remaining sessions during the summer holiday - and enjoy the free take-away breakfast and activity pack.

The sessions are led by Crispin Community Centre and supporters include Glastonbury's Yeast Scrapstore, The Friends of Street Library, Street Salvation Army and Health Connections Mendip.

Michaela Edmunds, Crispin Hall Trust community engagement manager, said: "We launched school holiday family fun sessions in Crispin Hall, with free breakfast and activities, at February half term.

"We ran just the two before the coronavirus lockdown happened.

"As we had secured funding for the whole year, the sessions are now being hosted at the library gardens and running throughout the summer holiday.

"What's even better is that the idea has evolved, with other organisations coming on board to support the mornings for the benefit of the community.

"We are delighted with the initial turnout and hope many more families will join us in the future - the sessions are a fantastic opportunity for parents and their children to come together safely."

Future family fun mornings are being held on Wednesday July 29 and August 5, 9 and 26, all from 9am to 11am.

With a limited supply of free breakfasts and activity packs, the mornings will operate on a first come, first served basis.

And to ensure social distancing is maintained, families are encouraged to take their food and pack to one of Street's green spaces. A village map highlighting these beauty spots will be available.

Street Parish Council chairman Andy Leafe said: "We are hoping this fantastic free event will grow and families will save the date and organise to meet up - socially-distanced of course - with family and friends."
