Approval has been given for the Lantokay pub in Street to have extra seating on the pavement outside.

The application for the change of use of the public footpath to create an increased pavement cafe seating area outside of the J D Wetherspoon pub at 111-113 High Street, Street, has been approved by Mendip District Council planners.

Wetherspoons will now be able to have seating outside the pub along the entire length of its frontage on to Street High Street.

The extra seating will be marked off using wooden barriers, which will be put out at 9am and removed at 7pm.

Street Parish Council had objected to the proposal on the grounds of encroachment on to the pavement and potential extra noise and disturbance to residents.

However, the Mendip planners gave approval, saying that the amount of space taken up by the barriers would not restrict pedestrian movement along the pavement.

Other planning application decisions in the Street area made this week by Mendip planners include:

Erection of seven B1 Commercial Units on land at Lydford Business Park, Castle Cary Road, Lydford-on-Fosse, by Mr S Barnes has been approved.

Erection of a residential dwellinghouse at 6 Hawthorn Road, Street, by Mr B Keen has been refused.

Demolition of extension to existing house and erection of a new dwelling at 1 Cranhill Road, Street, by Mrs Findlay has been approved.

Erection of front porch at 13 Stonehill, Street, by Mrs Samantha Costanza has been approved.

Replacement of existing ATM header signage to comply with new HSBC UK branding at 101 High Street, Street, by Mr Ben French has been approved.

Erection of a single storey rear extension and alterations at Pantiles, Middle Brooks, Street, by Mr Dan Trippick has been approved.

Only one planning application has been submitted to Mendip District Council in the Street area during the past week:

An application to demolish an existing pre-fabricated building and new single storey extension to the rear of 38 Green Lane, Street, has been made by Mr and Mrs Payne.
