Lower Sixth student at Millfield School in Street, Benjamin Goethe, has begun a career in professional motorsport after signing for Belgian Audi Club Team WRT for the GT World Challenge Europe.
Benjamin now follows in the footsteps of professional motorsport drivers Lando Norris (F1, McLaren) and Sam Bird (Formula E, Envision Virgin Racing), who both attended Millfield School.
Millfield has a specialised, holistic programme for students who hope to compete in international sporting events, allowing for balance between academic and extra-curricular commitments.
The school, which is home to up to 60 international athletes at any one time, provides support services such as athletic development, nutrition education, physiotherapy and psychology, and offers the chance for high ability sports students to connect with other like-minded individuals.
The promising teenager, who began his career in GT racing just last year and is one of the youngest competitors in the sport, was presented with the SRO Merit Award for his performance in the 2019 Blancpain GT Series (the former name of the GT World Challenge Europe).
As part of the series, Benjamin will make his debut in the world-famous 24 Hours of Spa, which has been moved to October this year.
Benjamin said: "I chose to come to Millfield because I wanted to finish my schooling in a school where sport is highly regarded and where I can successfully complete my studies.
"Out of the car I train in the gym everyday and I test the car every few weeks with a race once every month.
"Millfield is very supportive of my racing career. They allow me flexibility with my studies while giving me the perfect platform to physically prepare myself.
"Other than building a track on campus, the school is doing everything they can to support my racing career already - there is no better place for me in my career right now.
"My dream is just to compete and hopefully win races, with my ultimate goal being to drive for a manufacturer and one day win Le Mans."
