Strode College in Street is planning a series of special virtual events to support National Apprenticeship Week 2021, which runs from February 8 to 12.

Businesses will have the chance to find out about all the benefits employing an apprentice can have in terms of productivity and skills development.

Prospective apprentices can find out about the apprentice opportunities available, including specific sessions for those interested in careers in business, engineering, hairdressing, digital, childcare and hospitality.

Strode principal Katy Quinn said: "With additional funding of up to £3,000 being supplied by the government, there's no better time for businesses to consider apprenticeships as a way of building skills in the business, and providing career opportunities.

"For our young people, apprenticeships provide a fantastic opportunity to study for a recognised qualification, earn a salary, and learn real on the job skills from more experienced colleagues.

"The current pandemic presents huge challenges for businesses, and in terms of opportunities for young people.

"We're excited to be putting on these apprenticeship events as part of National Apprenticeship Week to help address these challenges."

Strode College is experienced in working in partnership with local and national businesses to develop and deliver apprenticeships.

In 2020, this included working with award-winning Somerset baker Burns the Bread, to develop the South West's first Baking Apprenticeship.

Founder and chairman of Burns the Bread, Bob Burns, said: "Working with the Ofsted Outstanding Strode College has presented the perfect opportunity to work in partnership to deliver this apprenticeship with a team who share our passion and desire to recruit more baking trainees.

"As a former apprentice myself I have always advocated the provision of such training for young aspiring bakers."

"Build the Future" is the theme for the National Apprenticeship Week 2021, which aims to encourage everyone to consider how apprenticeships help people to build the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career.

Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills, Gillian Keegan said: "Apprenticeships are a fantastic way to learn while you earn, opening up new and exciting career paths that can transform lives.

"It's been a tough year for everyone, but we want the theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2021 to be a springboard to look ahead to how apprenticeships can futureproof workforces and boost careers."
