Firefighters from Street were among six crews called to tackle a house fire in Yeovil yesterday (June 28), which was caused by a gas boiler.
Just before 9.15am, two fire appliances and an aerial ladder platform from Yeovil were mobilised following multiple calls from both the occupant, neighbours and passing motorists of a semi-detached property in Combe Close, Yeovil, after a bang was heard in the roof space shortly followed by smoke.
On arrival of the first crews they confirmed smoke was issuing from the roof, and they called for further appliances, as the fire quickly took hold and crews prepared to enter the property.
A further three fire appliances from Sherborne, Martock and Crewkerne were mobilised, followed by a Command Support Unit from Street, as well as supporting officers.
This fire was brought under control by 11.30am. Crews worked well to bring the fire under control and prevent it from rapidly spreading to the neighbouring property.
The cause was accidental and the loud bang heard at the time of call was confirmed to come from a gas boiler in the loft space.
Eight firefighters in breathing apparatus worked to extinguish the fire using two hose reel jets and a covering jet, as well as using thermal imaging equipment in the roof spaces of both properties continually checking for fire spread and hotspots.
The aerial ladder platform was used externally to prevent further damage to the roof and make it safe.
Once satisfied that the fire was out and the area was safe duty of care was left with the occupants of both properties. There were no casualties.
