Plans to create biodiversity and swimming pond in Butleigh Wootton are given approval

Plans to create a biodiversity and swimming pond at a grade II listed building in Butleigh Wootton have been given the green light.

A planning application for the proposed creation of a biodiversity and swimming pond with associated engineering work at Wootton House, Back Lane, Butleigh Wootton, was submitted to Mendip District Council by Susan Andrews.

Wootton House is used for holiday accommodation and the plans are for a space for wildlife enhancement and watching, and occasional swimming for the owners and holiday guests.

The pond will be created in the former kitchen garden area of the house's grounds, and Mendip gave the plans the go-ahead, saying they would have a positive impact on the business sustainability and the biodiversity of the site.

Planning applications in the Street area that have been submitted this week include:

Proposed work/s to tree/s in a Conservation Area: T1 (ash) - reduce branches (up to 2m) at Stepping Stones, Overleigh, Street, are wanted by Mrs Sara Bradshaw.

Proposed works to tree/s in a Conservation Area: T1 (Liquidamabar) - remove low lateral limb, T2 (oak) - prune low lateral limbs at the Bear Hotel, 53 High Street, Street, have been applied for by Street Properties.

Single-storey front (west), rear (east) and side (south) extensions, with recladding of existing bungalow, also the addition of PV panels to (south) roof elevation at 2 Blake Green, Ashcott, are wanted by Mr King.

Planning applications in the Street area that have been decided this week include:

Retrospective application for the change of use of part of a residential garden curtilage 12 by 24 metres to commercial storage for four vehicles at Sunnybanks, Back River Drove, Sharpham, by Mrs Chantelle Godden has been withdrawn.

Erection of biomass boiler house (retrospective) at Orchard Neville House, Ham Street, Baltonsborough, by Guna and Anthony Crouch has been approved.

Resubmission of 2017/3261/HSE - erection of single storey extension over existing garage at 1 Meadow Close, Street, by Mr Philip Leonard has been approved.

Application for approval of details reserved by conditions 13 (external lighting) on planning consent 2017/2763/FUL on a site north of Pursey's Garage, Main Street, Walton, by Ms Zoe Bartholomew has been approved.

Erection of a facia sign, two noticeboards and a double-sided free standing sign at 6 Leigh Road, Street, by Mr Mark Sandiford has been approved.

Erection of a single-storey, oak-framed lean-to outbuilding (covered patio) to side of existing dwelling; clay tiled roof to be hipped, and of an identical pitch, to match existing dwelling at Fairwood, Martin Street, Baltonsborough, by Mr Paul Knight has been approved.

Certificate of Lawfulness for the proposed change of use to C3 dwelling at Church Cottage, 28 Broadway, Chilton Polden, by Cambian Group has been approved.

Installation of two dormer windows to front (south) elevation and raising of ridge height by 0.9m to accommodate the proposed loft conversion at 7 St Mary's Close, Cossington, by Ms Marchant has been approved.

Demolition of existing lean-to structure and alterations to existing Dutch barn to provide secure storage at Hardings Barton, Chandlers Lane, Edington, by Mr Fletcher has been approved.

Erection of an agricultural building at Whites Farm, Burtle Road, Burtle, by Mr J Porter has been approved.
