Plans to convert a garage at a home in Ashcott into a separate house have been turned down.

The planning application for the conversion of an existing outbuilding/garage to form a separate dwelling at Millslade Lodge, 11 Station Road, Ashcott, had been submitted by Mr P Barber.

The proposal was to convert a one-and-a-half-storey outbuilding, currently used as a garage, into a separate one-bedroom house.

However, in refusing the application, Sedgemoor District Council said the plans did not meet the requirements for development in the countryside, and it would have a likely adverse effect on the integrity of the Somerset Levels and Moors Ramsar site due to the additional discharge of nutrients and absence of mitigation.

Planning applications in the Street area that have been submitted this week include:

Change of use of land to a glamping site to site seven glamping pods and three shepherd huts with car parking, pathways and associated groundworks at Ditch Furlong House, Middle Road, Cossington, has been applied for by Mr Sampson.

Demolition of existing lean-to structure and alterations to existing Dutch barn to provide secure storage at Hardings Barton, Chandlers Lane, Edington, are wanted by Mr Fletcher.

Formation of new driveway at Targyle, Holywell Road, Edington, has been applied for by Miss Lawrence.

Demolition of existing agricultural buildings and erection of lean-to building to be used as a general purpose agricultural building at Loxley Farm, Moor Road, Moorlinch, is wanted by Mr R Cox.

Planning applications in the Street area that have been decided this week include:

Demolition of part of existing single-storey element and alterations to retained outbuilding; erection of a two-storey and single-storey extension to main dwelling, together with internal and external alterations at Greenway Farm, Greinton Road, Greinton, by Mr and Mrs Davey have been approved.

Erection of a single-storey extension to rear (east) elevation at 11 Mill Lane, Shapwick, by Mr and Mrs Bartram has been approved.
