Plans to create a glamping site with pods in Cossington have been turned down.

A planning application for the change of use of land to a five-pitch glamping site with associated car parking, pathways and associated groundworks at Ditch Furlong House, Ditch Furlong Road, Cossington, had been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council by Mr Sampson.

Proposed were five handmade timber glamping pods with associated footpaths, parking area and landscaping including front decking areas to each pod.

Plans for a communal decking area were removed from the proposals during the planning process and the unit numbers were reduced from 10 to five.

The pods were planned to be high-end glamping accommodation with kitchenettes, en-suite bathrooms with hot showers and flushing loos.

However, in refusing the application, Sedgemoor District Council said: "The change of use of the land to a five pitch glamping site for tourist use would, by virtue of both the number and the layout of the pitches in close proximity to residential dwellings, result is an unacceptable impact upon the living conditions of the occupiers of the surrounding dwellings by reason of increased levels of noise and disturbance arising from holiday-makers' activities within the site.

"By virtue of the siting, layout and design of the units the proposed development fails to deliver a high-quality design solution that responds positively to the existing character of the area."
