Former newsagents set to become hairdressers after planning approval is given

A former newsagents in Street High Street is set to become a hairdressers after planning permission was given by Mendip District Council.

The planning application for the change of use from existing Class B1(a) Offices to use Class A1 Shops (specifically Hairdressers) and change of use of part of the existing Class C3 Dwelling to use Class B1(a) Office, with some existing Class C3 Dwelling use to be retained at 213 High Street, Street, was submitted by Simon Fisher.

The building was a newsagents but in 2000 planning permission was given to turn it into a residential dwelling.

Further permission was granted in 2004 to partly allow office use, and the building is currently used by the Benchmark software company.

The proposal will see the offices move elsewhere in the building, with a hairdressers to operate at the front.

Planning applications in the Street area that have been submitted this week include:

Erection of a rear and side extension at 3 Pine Close, Street, is wanted by Mrs Linda Culliford.

Application for a non-material amendment to permission 2019/2510/HSE for the north and partial south elevation of the two storey extension for the material finish to be rendered at 58 Oakfield Road, Street, has been made by Mr and Mrs M S Borkar.

Demolish existing conservatory and erection of single storey extension at rear of house at 15 Durston Close, Street, has been applied for by Mr Charlie Stone.

Works to trees in a Conservation Area T1 - Norway Maple - Fell, T3 - Lombardy Poplar - Reduce height by 9.5m at 55 Overleigh, Street, are wanted by Mrs Champion.

Application to remove condition 5 (The dwelling hereby permitted shall not be sold, leased or otherwise disposed of separately from the main dwelling known as Lubborn House) of planning approval 100168/003 (Conversion of existing building for use as a self contained unit, as amended by letter and plans received 15/2/90) at Lubborn Cottage, Lubborn Lane, Baltonsborough, has been made by Mr Jeremy Wright.

Single storey rear extension and render and paint to existing side and rear elevations at 1 Wilton Orchard, Street, has been applied for by Mr Justin Rose.

Tree Preservation Order works T1 - Holm Oak - Removal of 3 limbs, T2 - Bay - Reduce by 2m, TPO details M 351 at 3 Court Park, High Street, Butleigh, by Mr Richard have been approved.

Five Day Notice to remove a dead Red Prunus, replant with like for like and a Red Crab Apple Tree at New Court, Water Lane, Butleigh, by Mrs Lauren Perry has been approved.

Modify existing ground floor layout and erect a first floor extension at 40 Brooks Road, Street, by Mrs Jennifer Gulliford has been approved.

Single storey rear extension on south elevation at 1 Pine Close, Street, by Mr and Mrs Wintle has been approved.

Drop kerb and extend driveway at School View House, 81A Brooks Road, Street, by Mrs Rebecca Stubbs has been approved.

Five Day Notice:- T1 - Redwood Tree - Fell at Butleigh Church Hall, Church Path, Butleigh, by Mrs Nicola Doble has been approved.

Demolish existing storage building and replace with new store and first floor annex, provide additional off road parking spaces at Butleigh Post Office, High Street, Butleigh, by Mr and Mrs P Harwood has been approved.

Extend existing single storey 'lean to' at the rear of the property with associated internal works at 20 Wilfrid Road, Street, by Mr and Mrs Barclay has been approved.

Public realm works including hard and soft landscaping and installation of seating, planters, waste bins, lighting and associated street furniture at Clarks Village, Farm Road, Street, by Rocke Associates Ltd have been approved.

Outline planning application with all matters reserved for residential development of up to 25 dwellings at 24 Middle Street, Ashcott, by the Miles and Hurman Charity Trust has been approved.

Outline application with some matters reserved for the erection a self build dwelling at Hill Top Farm, Berhill, Ashcott, by Mr Howe has been approved.

Approval of the details of appearance, landscaping and layout for the erection of a dwelling on land to the south of Combe Lane, Combe Lane, Chilton Polden, by Mr and Mrs Jenkins has been given.
