A dental practice in Street has worked during lockdown to move to sustainable PPE equipment, ready for when it reopens fully.
TRUST Dental in the High Street is planning to reopen for routine treatment on June 15, after the government gave the go-ahead for dentists to open back up again from today (June 8).
The practice has been undertaking emergency procedures during the lockdown, and will continue to do so this week.
However, it has also used the time to improve its policies to make sure everything is safe for when all patients are welcomed back again, and to trial using sustainable PPE.
James Main from the practice said: "While the Government has announced that dental practices can open for routine treatment on June 8, it is likely that there are not many dental practices that are as well-prepared for opening as we are at TRUST Dental.
"During the lockdown period, we have seen numerous emergency patients which has allowed us to improve our policies and procedures so that we can sustainably and safely treat our patients for all procedures.
"It seems that the environmental impact caused by the necessary increase in the use of PPE, has been over-looked by many.
"Hence, we have been working hard to develop more sustainable means of practice during the Covid-19 outbreak and have worked to replace much of the single-use PPE that was being disposed of following each treatment.
"The majority of PPE equipment we are now using is reusable and is cleaned appropriately, following each treatment.
"If you have a dental emergency, please get in touch to see how we can help, and we are planning to reopen for routine procedures on June 15."
