Students at Crispin School in Street have been celebrating following the publication of their GCSE grades.
Fortunately, the decision to award the highest of the centred assessed grade or the calculated grade meant that students received results which were a reflection of their endeavours rather than largely the result of an algorithm.
As a school staff at Crispin feel it does not feel right to give details of headline figures and have agreed with other Somerset schools not to do so.
However, it is fair to say that students received some very impressive results ranging from students gaining 9s in every subject to those making outstanding progress from a variety of starting points.
Assistant head teacher, Helen Forward, was pleased that the grades awarded "reflected the hard work of so many students during their time at Crispin". She felt "it was only right that students gained grades that rewarded their effort and attainment".
Head teacher, Paul Reddick, said: "The students receiving their grades have been a pleasure to work with and were always likely to gain impressive results whatever the situation."
He also added that he was pleased that the change in the approach to grading "was only fair to allow a cohort of students who have undergone a considerable degree of disruption to now make the most of the opportunities available to them rather than ruing the results of an arbitrary process largely relying on historic performance".
