A business park near Clarks Village in Street could soon be expanded, creating dozens of new jobs.
The Street Business Park lies on Gravenchon Way and is currently home to the village's Sainsbury's and Lidl supermarkets, along with Pets at Home, Home Bargains, The Food Warehouse and McDonalds.
The park has been steadily built out in phases since outline permission was granted by Mendip District Council in April 2015.
Plans have now been submitted for the next phase of the expansion, which will see 23 new units built opposite the Home Bargains store at the western edge of the site.
The plans have been put forward by Canynge Bicknell (Street) Ltd. and Rockhaven Developments Ltd. – the latter of which has been closely associated with the ongoing expansion of the Commerce Park in Frome.
The expansion will consist of four blocks, with warehouses and offices on the ground floor and other facilities provided on a mezzanine level.
Up to 77 car parking spaces will be created near the new buildings, including four disabled parking spaces, two motorcycle bays and 14 covered cycle spaces.
The developer will also extend the existing spur road on Gravenchon Way as part of the planning approval.
A spokesman said: "Once complete and fully operational, the development is anticipated to create between 35 and 57 full-time equivalent jobs.
"It is anticipated that the road will be delivered to an adoptable standard in the spring of 2021 to align with the timings for the delivery of employment units sought in this submission."
The business park was purchased by Sedgemoor District Council for £8.2M in early-2019 as a commercial investment, using rental income to fund front-line services.
Mendip District Council is expected to make a final decision on the plans later in the year.
