The Barclays branch in Street is set to close in July following an announcement by the bank today (April 23).
Customers were sent a letter today explaining the reasons for the closure of the branch in the High Street, and where there nearest branches would now be.
However, the move has not gone down well with local account holders with one, Pat Cooney, telling Street Nub News that she would now be switching banks.
She said: "My account will be moving to another High Street branch as I don't do online or phone banking, and it will mean another empty shop."
The Street High Street branch will be shutting on Friday July 23, with Barclays giving four main reasons behind the closure.
It said the number of counter transactions has gone down in the previous 24 months, and additionally 83 per cent of the branch's customers also use other ways to do their banking such as online and by telephone.
Customers using other ways to do their banking has increased by 11 per cent since 2015, according to the bank, and in the past 12 months, 27 per cent of this branch's customers have been using nearby branches.
Barclays said it had identified that only 128 customers use the Street branch exclusively for their banking.
The nearest Barclays branch for Street customers is now the one in Wells Market Place, which is 7.7 miles away.
Customers were told they can still withdraw money from their accounts through the free cash machines at HSBC and NatWest in Street High Street.
A Barclays spokesperson said: "Before we make the decision to close any branch, we think carefully about how it has been used so far.
"We consider how many customers have been visiting, what kind of transactions they've been making, and all the other ways they've been choosing to bank with us. We also take into consideration the availability of other branches in the wider community."
