Street residents turned out to support the Little eat:Festivals produce event – a first for Mendip.

Sunday's drizzle certainly didn't dampen spirits. By 10am, High Street was transformed and full of the bustle of local producers serving up a variety of quality, fresh food and drink offerings.

Cllr Simon Carswell, portfolio holder for economic development at Mendip District Council, attended the festival.

He said: "The event was a great success. So many people were out and about.

"I met people I hadn't seen in more than six months. There were many visitors too, which was so pleasing.

"Those I spoke to were happy the event had come to Street. They said the lively, fresh-air festival, in which they felt entirely safe, was just the boost they needed. And I echo those sentiments.

"It was actually quite moving to see High Street so alive on Sunday."

If you missed it, there are many more Little eat:Festivals on their way, including Glastonbury this weekend.

Music and street entertainers will perform throughout the day. All events run from 10am until 4pm.

  • Glastonbury, St Dunstan's car park, Sunday, July 18
  • Wells, Cathedral Green, Sunday, July 25
  • Shepton Mallet, Market Place, Sunday, August 8

Mendip District Council has partnered with the multi award-winning eat:Festivals team to deliver fresh produce events in Street, Glastonbury, Wells and Shepton Mallet during July and August, each showcasing around 20 of Somerset's finest local producers.

Mendip commissioned the festival with monies from the European Regional Development Fund.
