600 cream teas to be delivered to elderly and vulnerable in Street for VE Day 75th anniversary
More than 600 cream teas will be delivered to elderly and vulnerable members of the Street community as part of the 75th anniversary of VE Day celebrations.
In a fantastic effort from Street Community Support Group volunteers today (May 7), they've been hard at work baking scones at The Salvation Army in Street for tomorrow's Cream Tea Celebration.
Tomorrow the cream teas will be delivered to 600 elderly and vulnerable members of the community, with the hope that it will bring a smile and a treat to those most affected by self-isolation.
The support group has been getting people to sponsor a cream tea so they can make the donations, and so far more than £850 has been raised, enabling the 600 cream teas to be delivered.
A spokesperson for the group said: "If you'd like to get involved you can sponsor a cream tea for someone in your community.
"For just £2 you will be helping to brighten someone's day and spreading a little good cheer which is so desperately needed at this time.
"Don't forget, we encourage you to join us all in our celebration at 3.30pm on May 8 with your own cream tea - homemade or shop bought."
