Seventeen-year-old student at Millfield School in Street, Tamryn van Selm, was part of the quartet who won gold at the recent European Championships, securing Millfield's first female senior international medal in more than 20 years.

Lower Sixth swimmer Tamryn swam a mature second leg to win gold in the women's 4 x 200m freestyle relay on the final weekend of competition in Budapest, Hungary.

Tamryn took part in her first European Championships which saw Great Britain top the medal table with a total of 32 medals, making it their most successful championships in history.

Millfield boarder Tamryn joined Old Millfieldians James Guy, Brodie Williams, Kieran Bird and Max McCusker (Ireland) at the championships which saw 51 nations compete across the two weeks.

James Guy came home with six medals to his name (three gold, two silver and one bronze) while Brodie Williams achieved the LEN sportsmanship's award.

Millfield's director of swimming Euan Dale said: "Tamryn showed her class and conviction to help the British 4x200m freestyle team to gold at the European championships.

"This was her first GB senior team appearance and she didn't hesitate to make an impact, she managed the environment with expertise and confidence. This is Millfield's first female senior international medal in more than 20 years."
