Upper Sixth student at Millfield School in Street, Jackson Pickup, has received early acceptance offers from two of the top business schools in Canada - the Smith School of Business at Queen's University and the Ivey School of Business at Western University.

Admission to both schools requires not only top academics, but also strong leadership skills and contribution to school and the wider community.

Widely known as the most prestigious business schools in Canada, they both have an unrivalled reputation among the top finance, consulting and accounting firms in Toronto and New York.

Jackson, who joined Millfield in 2018, will be attending Queen's University to study Queen's Commerce, which is within the Smith School of Business, with plans to pursue a career in investment banking.

The programme is a four-year honours degree dedicated to all aspects of business/ finance and management, and includes a one-year international exchange.

Jackson's applications were supported by the Millfield Higher Education and Careers Department, who specialise in US and Canadian university submissions.

While at Millfield, Jackson served as a prefect and house prefect, was part of the Economic Society committee, and was a captain with Millfield Football.

Outside of Millfield, Jackson gained leadership experience as a camp councillor at the Onondaga Camp in Canada for two years.

Jackson said: "Mrs Nixon from Millfield Careers was extremely helpful in co-ordinating my applications, and because the class sizes at Millfield are quite intimate, the fact that teachers could really get to know me and submit personal references was definitely a contributor to my success.

"Also, overall the amount of activities and leadership positions I could get involved in at Millfield supported me in writing my application essays.

"Queen's will offer me the chance to develop holistically - I can't wait to be a part of the school community, set in a beautiful location on Lake Ontario."
