Street Parish Council has voted overwhelmingly to enhance the village library and community facilities.

A month of full public consultation is now underway for people to say what facilities they would like at the library.

There will be an open evening on the project at the Parish Rooms from 6.30pm tomorrow (Wednesday January 29).

Details will also be published on the council's website, Facebook and be available from the council office. There will be a survey form for the public to complete and return to the office.

Councillor Peter Goater, chair of the Parish Council, said: "I am really looking forward to opening the new community hub later in the year."

Claire Axten, chair of the Friends of Street Library, said: "After a long period of uncertainty the Friends are delighted with this positive move forward for Street Community Library Partnership."

Cllr David Hall, Cabinet Member with responsibility for libraries at Somerset County Council, said: "It's great news the parish council voted overwhelmingly in favour of enhancing the library and community facilities.

"I look forward to seeing this take shape over the coming months and it becoming an even greater resource for members of the community to use."
