A Street hairdresser has raised £1,500 for a hospital fundraising group by getting her incredibly long hair cut.

Teresa Rizutti Crooks, from Jazmin Hair Design, has had her hair cut to raise money for the Team Marcus fundraising group, which aims to support the respiratory unit at Musgrove Park Hospital, in Taunton.

The group was set up in memory of Marcus Birch, who passed away in 2018 after a battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), and due to the pandemic, this was the group's first fundraising event since 2019.

As well as the money raised for the group by Teresa's hair cut, she is donating the hair to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other conditions.

Pam Birch, the wife of Marcus, told Street Nub News: "Team Marcus was started five years ago when my beloved husband was diagnosed with MND.

"He sadly passed away in June 2018 after bravely battling this devastating illness. He was always on hand to help anyone who needed it and so myself and our family thought we would raise money primarily to the MND Association and then for the last few years to Musgrove Park Hospital for their respiratory unit and equipment in his honour and then memory.

"This is the first fundraiser since 2019 due to Covid-19, but since our first fundraiser in 2016 we have proudly raised about £30,000.

"Marcus died as he lived with great dignity, humour and uncomplaining. Hopefully we will be back next year with our annual fundraiser of mouse-racing and large raffle.

"Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years and it is testament to Marcus' popularity with how much we have raised in his name in just three-and-a-half short years.

"Long may we continue to raise money for Musgrove in his memory to help the people of Somerset from where Marcus came from."
