Firefighters from Street help put out a dumper truck blaze in Somerton yesterday (July 30).

Just before 11.30am, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue control were called to a report of a 32-tonne dumper truck on fire at a site off Somertonfield Road, Somerton.

Fire control sent one fire engine from Somerton, one fire engine from Martock, one fire engine from Street and the water bowser from Yeovil.

Once the crew got in attendance the officer in charge confirmed one dumper truck to be well alight.

The crew got to work to extinguish the fire with the use of four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one main jet, thermal imaging camera and ladders.

The fire was extinguished and the area made safe. The truck was 80 per cent destroyed by fire and the cause is believed to be accidental.
