A New Year's Eve celebration like no other is on offer at an iconic restaurant venue in Street which has seen substantial investment, a dramatic transformation and relaunch earlier this year.

The glitz and glamour of the West End will be on offer at Pillars Bar and Grill in Street which reopened its doors in early 2019 following a substantial refurbishment.

Diners will be treated to Prosecco on arrival prior to a gourmet four-course meal featuring local Somerset suppliers and special guests from London's West End will perform throughout the night.

Vocalist Helen Colby has appeared in West End musicals including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Sound of Music, Sweeney Todd and Sister Act.

She will be joined by actor and musician Wendy Paver who has also appeared in Dreamboats and Petticoats, and The Buddy Holly Story.

Owner Kevin Newton said: "We are delighted to open the doors to Pillars on New Year's Eve for the first time after such an extensive period of refurbishment and to offer such a unique culinary and musical experience to our diners.

"We are particularly thrilled to have secured such prestigious musical talent in Helen and Wendy, and I know it will make the evening really special for our diners.

"It's now such a beautiful venue we want to share it with as many people as possible at this special time of the year but places are limited to pre-booking is a must."

Pillars was transformed into an Art Deco venue after development started on the project in June 2018.

Local residents will remember the building's unique history as an entertainment venue going back many years, with its most recent incarnation being a nightclub which closed its doors in 2016 and prior to that a theatre and cinema.

The new owners vowed to preserve the historic building and return it to its former glory as an entertainment venue for mid-Somerset residents and Pillars Bar and Grill opened its doors in April 2019.

Set over two floors and with a secluded alfresco terrace, a wide range of wines, Champagnes, beers, ales and ciders (as well as Pillars' own brand of home brewed craft ale), the restaurant's menu offers a range of food from the grill as well as dishes catering for vegetarians, vegans and gluten-free options. This will be the first New Year's Eve celebration the newly refurbished building has seen.
