Plans have been approved that will see an earthworks mound created to improve sub-standard drainage in Moorlinch.
A planning application for the formation of a drainage mound at 6 Moor Road, Moorlinch, had been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council by Homes in Sedgemoor Ltd.
The application site is located on the west side of a short row of former local authority semi-detached houses on the north western edge of Moorlinch, which comprises an area of hardstanding adjoining number 6 Moor Road that is informally used for parking.
It was proposed that a drainage mound should be formed in the lower southern part of the area of hardstanding, as a means to improve the foul drainage currently serving the adjoining properties, which is said to be sub-standard.
The mound will measure 9m in width and 18m in length, will be laid across the sloping site and will be formed of topsoil, filter sand and washed gravel.
The mound will be separated from a retained area for parking in the north of the site by a new post and chainlink fence. Space for the parking of three vehicles will be retained.
In approving the plans, the officer's report said: "The proposed mound, though relatively large in footprint, is considered to be of an appropriate scale, design and detailing that would have limited wider visual impact.
"It would respect the form, character and identity of the locality.
"The proposed alterations to the area of hardstanding would result in the loss of some of the space used informally for parking.
"Though not marked out, the plans indicate six spaces could be provided at present, dropping to three with the proposals.
"All but number 6 Moor Road have dedicated off-street parking spaces immediately to the front of their properties. The provision of three spaces should therefore be sufficient to provide parking for 6 Moor Road.
"The proposal is of an acceptable design and appearance that would have no adverse impact of the character of the locality, residential amenity, ecology or highways safety."
