Plans to build a house in a garden of a home in Street have been refused by Mendip District Council.

A planning application to demolish an outbuilding and build a detached two-bedroom dwelling with associated parking at 19 Ringolds Way, Street, had been submitted by Mr and Mrs Bobbett.

Street Parish Council objected to the proposal, saying it would cause over-shadowing, would be overbearing, and that there would be highway safety issues with regard to a neighbouring bus shelter.

Mendip agreed, and in refusing the application, the planning officer's report said: "It is considered that the development proposed would appear cramped and out of character with the street scene.

"Insufficient information has been submitted to assess impacts on ecology and the application fails to adequately demonstrate adequate appropriate water management measures to reduce surface water run-off in the interests of managing flood risk."

Planning applications in the Street area that have been submitted this week include:

Proposed erection of a new dwelling on land to the side, and new single-storey porch to existing dwelling at 17 South Close, Walton, have been applied for by Mr Colin Higgs.

Redevelopment of farmyard with two dwellings to replace three dwellings granted under 2019/2469/FUL at Goosemoor Farm, Burnetts Lane, Baltonsborough, is wanted by Mr and Mrs Robert and Anne Hurford.

Erection of a two-storey extension to north elevation, on site of existing (to be demolished) at 4 Steel Lane, Catcott, has been applied for by Mr Watson.

Planning applications in the Street area that have been decided this week include:

Erection of rear single storey extension at 11 Holm Oaks, Butleigh, by Mr M Crocker-Gaines has been approved.

Approval of details reserved by conditions 4 (Arboricultural Method Statement and Tree Protection Plan) and 7 (Surface Water Drainage System ) on planning consent 2020/2199/VRC at 1 Housman Road, Street, by Mr M Gill has been given.

Change of use of land from highways to residential use in order to facilitate the erection of a new boundary wall at Burtle Inn, Catcott Road, Burtle, by Mr Dyson has been approved.
