A planning application to build a new home in Catcott on the site of a current barn has been turned down.

The application for the demolition of an existing barn and the building of a dwelling with associated works on land south of Little Leaze Lane, Catcott, by Miss J Lashley has been refused by Sedgemoor District Council.

The site comprises a large steel portal framed building previously granted prior approval for conversion to a dwelling.

Permission was now sought to demolish this building and to build a new dwelling in its place, which would have been single storey and laid out in U-plan footprint with rooms looking into a

central courtyard.

If approved, the property would have comprised three bedrooms along with open plan living/kitchen area, utility room and office.

However, the council refused the plan, saying the proposal was tantamount to the building of a new dwelling in the countryside, being in an unsustainable location, remote from services and facilities, and fostering a greater need to travel by future occupants.

Other planning decisions in the Street area that have been made this week include:

Erection of replacement stable block on land at Churchmoor Lane, Baltonsborough, by Mr and Mrs Graney has been approved.

Erection of a rear and side extension at 3 Pine Close, Street, by Mrs Linda Culliford has been approved.
