From Monday (July 19) to Friday August 6, Millfield Swimming Pool in Street will open its doors to the public, providing an opportunity for local residents to improve their physical health in an Olympic-sized pool.

Lane swimming sessions are available for one-hour time slots, with various dates and times available throughout the week.

The sessions are open for swimmers of all abilities, with customers able to book a slow, medium or fast lane, ensuring they are grouped with swimmers of a similar level to themselves and their level of comfort.

Families looking for an active way to spend time together will benefit from the family swimming sessions on offer, with the small pool available for hourly time slots.

The pool will be divided in two to accommodate two families at a time while maintaining a safe distance from each other.

Public swimming is now a regular feature at Millfield, with a range of sessions available in the school holidays as well as during term-time, however, due to a busy summer of events and courses, Friday August 6 will be the last opportunity for the public to swim at Millfield until the autumn term.

Pool manager, James Whitlock, is looking forward to continuing public swimming at Millfield in the autumn term, and said: "We're so pleased to have been able to open our doors to the public on a regular basis this year.

"For many, our swimming sessions have provided a unique opportunity to swim in a pool that has been the training ground for 24 Olympians including Duncan Goodhew, Mark Foster and most recently James Guy.

"We look forward to seeing more of the public over the next two weeks and can't wait to welcome them back in the autumn term."

Although the pool will be closed for public swimming for the remainder of the summer, there are a number of courses available for children to attend including an intensive swimming course for ages three to 15, and a unique opportunity for children aged 10 to 17 who are club level swimmers or above to train with the Millfield coaching team and Olympian Jazz Carlin.
