Strode College in Street has announced that it is set to benefit from an allocation from the Department for Education's (DfE) FE Capital Transformation Fund.

The investment will be used to redevelop the oldest building on campus and incorporate new facilities.

Plans for the redevelopment of the 1960s A Block include replacing the building on a similar footprint.

Facilities would include a new main entrance leading to a front of house training restaurant, commercial hair and beauty salons, and reception area for Strode Theatre.

It will also accommodate creative arts space linking to the theatre, a student hub and collaborative learning space with easy access to student services, and a large learning resource for various independent learning activities.

The college has been working on a 2020 to 2025 college-wide property vision for development of the curriculum and campus, considering existing and future needs.

The college's vision will ensure all students are taught in modern, industry standard facilities integrating sustainable and carbon reducing technologies.

Last year, Strode College received funding from the government's T Level Capital Fund. An initial £1 million supported the development of a specialist centre for Digital and Media Technology incorporating new, state-of-the-art radio and TV studios, a mixing suite, IT studios and childcare learning facilities.

A further £650,000 was received to build a new, state-of-the-art mock hospital ward, complete with birthing room, nursing station and dispensary, and a new, purpose-built professional laboratory for the Health and Science T Level launching this September. An investment bid has also been submitted for the next phase of T Levels.

Katy Quinn, Strode College principal and CEO, said: "I'm thrilled that Strode College is one of the providers who will benefit from the government's FE Capital Transformation Fund.

"This will allow our students to have amazing opportunities to access high quality, modern facilities to support their learning and successful career development at Strode. We are looking forward to working with the DfE on this very exciting project."
