The wind is blowing, the rain is drizzling, and the grey skies are here to stay for a little bit longer.

Whilst we count down the days until spring has sprung take a look at some tips and tricks to keep you looking good and feeling even better.

Get back to basics and reset your routine with the perfect three-step starter kit.

You need a cleanser, a moisturiser, and a dedicated SPF. Once this solid foundation feels comfortable and effective you can begin to introduce targeted treatments for specific needs.

In winter, our skin suffers when we move from the harsh cold outdoor weather, to warmer artificially heated environments like cars, homes and workspaces.

Make sure to protect your skin's natural barrier with plenty of hydration.

Look for ingredients such as vitamin E, and hyaluronic acid to plump and hydrate.

Vitamin C protects your body and immune system in winter.

It can support your skin too. Vitamin C supports a major function in maintaining healthy skin. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and thus protects skin cells from damage and compliments your other skincare.

Sunny days might be a little inconsistent but SPF should never be.

You should be protecting your skin every single day with a dedicated SPF sun protection. SPF should be the final layer of your skincare routine before your makeup.

Never neglect your sun protection and your future self will be very grateful.

Acids are ace.

While it may sound a little scary, the right acid can be a fantastic chemical exfoliant. Acid can make skin slightly more sensitive so winter is the perfect time to build them into your routine.

Just make sure you are using an SPF every morning. If you are an acid-newbie then practise the 'slow and low' method, meaning that you gradually bring the product into your routine, perhaps once or twice a week, and use a low dosage.

A great beginner acid is lactic acid, which is an alpha-hydroxy acid or AHA. AHA's help to promote dead skins sells to shed. Leaving you with smoother, softer, and more even skin tone and texture.

If you want to bring some warmth into your skin then look no further than Pantone's colour of the year - Mocha Mousse. It is a decadent rich chocolate brown which conveniently looks great on all skin tones!

Think rich cream eyeshadow pencils, balmy warm tone lip-glosses, and soft sculpted bronzer. DIY your own sun-kissed skin if the sun isn't yet shining.

With all this pampering don't forget below the neck! The cold can make skin dehydrated all over your body so re-invigorate your skin in, and out of the shower.

Find a nourishing cream cleanser with ingredients like vitamin E, oat, and aloe vera.

Finish your shower routine with a rich moisturiser to look all of the goodness in and protect against cold weather.

Don't forget your hands! If you get drier hands in the colder weather then try the double layer technique. Use two moisturisers with very specific jobs. First go in with a thinner formula with a water base.

This can absorb more quickly into your skin and hydrate and nourish. Then follow with a thicker balm textured product.

Think Vaseline-like textures which will trap the goodness into skin cells and not evaporate.

Finally, remember that this is a season of cosy fireplaces, saying no to plans outside, and maybe just a little bit of hibernation!

Nothing helps us look our best and feel great like taking time to rest and recuperate, and wait out the weather for some spring sunshine.
