Plans for a 37-home housing development and cafe to be built in Butleigh have been withdrawn - though it is likely they will be resubmitted at a later date.

A planning application for the development of 37 dwellinghouses (C3) and a cafe/work hub (E) with associated access, parking and landscaping on land at Baltonsborough Road, Butleigh, had been submitted to Mendip District Council by Galion Homes Ltd.

This application related to an area of agricultural land to the east of Back Town and south west of Baltonsborough Road on the eastern edge of Butleigh.

The site is relatively level and measures 11.8 hectares in total, with the development area being 4.6 hectares.

The site is bounded by the playing field, pavilion and Back Town to the west, Back Town and agricultural land to the south, further agricultural land to the east and Baltonsborough Road to the north west.

The proposal was to build five two-bedroom dwellings, 17 three-bedroom dwellings, 13 four-bedroom dwellings and two five-bedroom dwellings.

Included within this would be 11 affordable homes, made up of five social rented units and six shared ownership units.

The council has been informed that the application has been withdrawn, though the architects have stated that they would like to resubmit it at a later date.
